Palestine Protests In Dallas
Most people have never been in a protest, they only experience them through the news, photos and some videos on social media. Being in the middle of a protest is both exhilarating and scary.
I arrived just as the protest was begging. I had enough time to eat at my favorite place, Bread Zeppelin though.
As soon as I got out, the streets were already full of people. Anyone who noticed I had a camera would pose for me. So I began to take photos.
There were so many people in the streets. I tried to walk along side them but at some points I was swallowed up into the crowd and it made it very difficult to work my way out of it.
People were extremely friendly and genuinely happy to see other people around. Even though they were protesting because of anger and desperation, I never felt like things would go out of control.
Being in the middle of thousands of people as they march through the streets is scary on its own though. I kept thinking that if I fell, I could probably damage my camera. I’ve heard of so many photographers damaging their gear during protests because they fall or accidentally run into things.
I wanted to stay through the whole thing but once we circled around, cops blocked off certain streets to try to restrict people crossing streets and allow cars to drive.
I must have taken at least a 1,000 shots in the short period of time that I had my camera out. I tried to take more portraits of people but it was hard since everyone was walking and didn’t really stop.
It was definitely something cool to witness and document.
