Enya And My Flash

This shoot was supposed to be a really easy one. It was a simple shoot with Enya and then Enya and her family but I had gear failure.

My flash started to die on me in the middle of shooting Enya. The environment we choose wasn’t the best so I needed to blow the background out as much as possible. I also wanted to darken it so the flash was really important.

After about 25 shots though, I noticed the colors were off. Cycling through the rest of the photos, I noticed that they were making her skin-tones a bit green and sometimes pink. I knew right away my flash was the issue.

I told Enya and her family right away. We couldn’t reschedule and it was too dark to shoot with just natural light. They decided that we could drive a few minutes West where the elevation is higher. I agreed and we all hopped on their truck.

I tried to charge the flash in the car while we drove but it didn’t do anything to make the flash better.

There was defiantly a lot more light at this location but it was not a nice scene. I took a few photos of the family but was not happy with them.

At this point I had no choice to but to ask them to reschedule. They were very understanding and agreed to shoot on another day. I was really saddened and embarrassed by this but they were super cool. They offered to buy me dinner so we headed to their favorite location up the mountain.

We had a quick meal and I took a few photos of the area.

The lesson of the day is to double check equipment and make sure to have a backup flash if it’s really important for the shoot.
