Melanie
This was my first shoot since the pandemic hit. I was excited because it was going to be inside of a music studio. I had shot lots of times in music studios but it had also been several years back.
I wasn’t too sure how this studio was going to be but I was confident that I’d be able to do the shoot with my 50mm and 1 flash.
Right off the bat I messed up. I arrived and my main memory card wasn’t working. I switched to my backup and I cracked it as soon as I placed it inside the camera.
I rushed home and got my last spare one.
I’ve been using SanDisk since I started photography. They have worked fairly well, but I do notice that after a year or so, they start to break where the pins go. They’re pretty flimsy and the constant popping in and out of the camera really takes a toll on the cheap plastic.
I think I’m going to switch to the Sony Tough Cards. They’re a little pricier because they are faster, but I think it’s worth it just for the durability of the cards. Unlike the SanDisk, these cards are made of 1 block of material. The material is tougher and is supposed to last way longer.
Back to the shoot, we were already 1 hour behind schedule so the sunset was completely out of the picture. We had no choice but to improvise.
Melanie was already at the studio. She had a really cool float dress and an awesome orange hat. After meeting the owners of the studio and exchanging info and my prices, we finally started the shoot.
Melanie hadn’t done a photo shoot in years but she was a natural at it. She has an infectious smile that shows through all of the photos.
We started with some pictures inside of the studio. We used the guitar wall as a prop. After taking a few silly pictures, we took a really nice portrait.
There was a band coming in so we had to go outside. There were plenty of places to shoot in the arts district. All we had to do was find some decently lit areas. Since I had the flash, all I had to worry about was the background.
We experimented with a lot of areas before we called it a day. By the end of the shoot, Melanie was feeling it but sadly it was late and we had to call it quits. She had to get back to work.
