Helios, The Softness King
Typically when I go out and for a day of fun, I tend to take a lens that has autofocus. Fun or memorable things happen so fast, that you need a lens you can rely on that can nail the shot before it’s gone into the ether.
But, I decided I was going to challenge myself today. With the skies being indecisive about being cloudy or not, I wasn’t expecting to get that many keepers today. Plus I still wanted to enjoy my time with my loved ones.
Since everyone was running late, I had some time to explore the location. I had two models for a few minutes, so I took advantage of it. With a few locations in mind, we started our walk. They had no idea that I would be using them to experiment with some lenses today.
This lens just keeps proving how amazing it is every time. I put it to a test. Granted, it was softly diffused lighting, but the images just came out beautifully soft.
Colors were muted, but that helped with the skin tones. Somehow though, slight changes in the light really affect the colors of the lens. This is not something. I had experienced before. Either way, the photos came out beautifully.
Whatever is in focus, renders soft, but still sharp. I just fell in love with almost every image. Even the ones that were out of focus still had an amazing character.
I ended up only taking a few portraits of Karina and a few photos of Alyza. We ran out of time. I want to come back and take some more portraits of Karina though. Theres a lot of cool places where I think we can get some cool swirly bokeh here.
There was only a few photos were I managed to catch the swirly bokeh though. It’s pretty difficult to do, but when you get it right, it’s such a satisfying feeling.
I had two shoots this day; so this was the perfect warm up. Sadly, I won't be using this lens on any of the shoots.
