El Paso’s Krishna Celebration

I went into downtown to explore a bit. I had 3 workdays in the city and 2 days in the weekend. I had been through the town a few times in the past but had no interest in exploring based off what I saw while driving in the car the previous times.

I parked kind of far away from the main part of downtown and walked toward the heart of the city. So many people were walking around with bright colors changing “Hare Krishna”

I had no idea they were having a celebration. I quickly got my camera out and started taking photos. It was so much fun. The people were so welcoming. Coming up to me and asking me to take photos and partake in the chanting. It was so catchy that I couldn’t help but chant with them.

I walked alongside them for a while until they finally reached where they were having their main celebration and activities.

They had free food for everyone and free entertainment. Anyone was welcomed. The lines were incredibly long for the food, and I had just eaten prior to seeing the celebration.

The colors everyone wore stood out so much. They had so much joy and life in them and it flowed into everyones smile.

I was disappointed I didn’t bring any of my brightly colored clothes.

After a long time enjoy the entertainment, my alarm rang. I had 15 minutes to get back to my car before my parking expired. My cameras battery was pretty low by now too so I had no choice but to call it a day.

It was a wonderful surprise and I felt so happy that I convinced myself to head out and explore the city today. The ironic part is that I didn’t really explore the city since I walked a few blocks with the celebration before going into the little festival area.
