DroneHeadz
Ally and her group had been planning to get some practice with their gear before they made their new website live. They spent some time thinking of the outfits they would wear and as well as what themes to go with.
I was called in last minute so I could go and have a little teaching session with the group so I was really excited to do this. Luckily they all shot with Sony’s as well so they could use my lenses on their bodies and really see the difference between the standard kit lens and a fast prime. They were also able to use my flash since the flash trigger worked on their bodies as well.
The model had her son with her so it made for some really cool and interesting shots. I got there a little late, and since there is no reception in this location, I had to wait by the parking lot until they came back out for a wardrobe change. Luckily, I only missed the first theme.
We walked to a little cool spot and I began to set up the flash. I took a few shots and then let everyone take their own photos. After that I explained the difference between flash and natural light. I let them borrow my flash trigger and my 85mm lens.
They were really excited to try them out. We took a lot of photos up until the sun was setting. Since we were in the middle of some mountains, the sun peaked in a lot earlier than normal.
I took out my LED light bar and set it up as well. They were excited to see the big difference it all makes.
We went through 2 wardrobe changes while I was with them. It was a lot of fun being able to teach photographers something new. We all had a great time and the models were really great. The son got bored towards the middle of the shoot so he was excluded from the last wardrobe change.
We all agreed to share our images with one another in a Dropbox file later one. I initially only edited 5 photos but eventually edited a few more. I had different thoughts on how the images should have been edited. Initially I wanted something really warm, but then I felt like black and white with high contrast would work even better for it.
This was so much fun and I really wish there were a lot more groups like this in Las Vegas. It’s one of the things I miss the most from LA. There is a few groups out there that do photo meets often enough and you get to meet other photographers and interact with them. You also meet pro models and upcoming models where you can practice your craft with.
I hope DroneHeadz do things like this more often.
