Albuquerque New Mexico
Most drives through the country are pretty boring after a while. There's nothing interesting for 90% of each trip. The only exciting things are when you go through mountain, rivers, and cities.
The road to Albuquerque New Mexico is exceptionally boring thought. It was a long drive from California that took over a day. I promised myself to take some photos of something cool, even if I had to go out of my way for it.
A few hours from the city I decided to stop by an edge of a mountain range. There was really nothing interesting about it. You’ve seen one mountain range and you’ve pretty much seem them all on this side of the Mississippi.
But I parked and got out of the car and took some photos. It was a warm day with a cool breeze, which made my next decision an easy one. The fence had a large gap spanning about a quarter mile, so I decided to go into the mountain range.
It was mainly flat land with a lot of cacti and desert plants all over with some animal poop here and there. There were some bones, large and small. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I decided to keep going into the mountain. Found some cool rocks, big and small, and eventually got to the base of the mountain. I climbed it and took some photos. Took some time to really take in the colors, the smells and peaceful sight of the area. Even though it’s boring, it’s still gorgeous. Something I take for granted too easily while traveling.
Albuquerque is a very cool city though. It feels like a blend of a Mexican town with some modern American culture in it. Which makes a lot of sense considering the name of the state is New Mexico.
The main reason why I was so excited to come here was because it’s where they filmed Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. I planned to visit all of the iconic places from the show. It was going to be a jammed packed day of fun things to see.
I got to see everything on my checklist and a few more things that I didn’t have. I took so many photos. The day was perfect for walking, exploring and for photos. It was a day well spent.
I spent a few more days exploring the town. The other half of the town seemed a lot more of a normal urban city. The farther north you get, the more it loses its uniqueness and becomes more forgettable.
After a few days I headed east.
There was a lot more interesting things on this short drive through the state. I saw a lot of abandoned buildings. I stopped at a few to take some photos. It was a bright day for all of the photos and I couldn't help but wonder how the images would come out if it was cloudy or maybe even at night. Although I don’t know if I’d be up to drive hours in the middle of nowhere to an old abandoned houses and cities just to take some photos.
I saw dead cows in some houses, a lot of cows roaming around, probably not friendly cows since they kept grunting at me. Definitely some wild predators as well.
New Mexico was a great state. At some point I will come back and visit Roswell.
