Rainy Day Scooter

We had a 2 hour break in the storm, so naturally I decided to get out and shoot.

With my trusty partner by my side, I decided to shoot with 85mm and 16mm and nothing in-between. I find it really difficult to match colors on both lenses so the soft even lighting will be a good base for me to practice when I edit.

Alyza wanted to take her scooter, so we had to stick on sidewalks but luckily this parks sidewalk cuts through the best parts of the park.

I’m falling more and more in love with the 85mm every time I use it. Just the way it separates the subject is fantastic. Even more so than what an 50mm does.

Learning what focal length to use is proving to be a hassle though. Switching lenses is getting really frustrating when something is happening in front of you. Sometimes, by the time I switch lenses, the moment has passed.

This little practice showed me that I need to learn how to anticipate the moment and have the lens ready for it.

Luckily, Alyza doesn’t mind trying to redo whatever she was doing. From climbing to running to standing still, she is a great sport.

That’s why she got ice cream once we left. Half the sky was clear, and the humidity kicked in, so that ice cream tasted extra better.
