Las Vegas Arts District
I lived in California practically all my life, up until 2019 when I finally left the state. Living in California, I was 15 minutes away from Los Angeles, without traffic of course. But yet, it wasn’t until my late 20’s that I finally decided to start exploring the city.
Battling traffic going in and out of the city, I began to explore the town. Most times with friends or fellow photographers and models, but also alone.
By far my favorite place in the whole city was The Art District. There was always something cool going on. It’s only a few blocks, but it’s right next to the busy Fashion District, the Flower District, Downtown LA, Union Station and one of my other favorites, China Town AKA Little Tokyo.
So when I moved to Las Vegas, I knew that what I would miss the most was going to be the photography community and the Arts District. Having a location that you could go and take photos of whenever you wanted, and you were always bound to get some different shots, it’s really hard to let go of.
Las Vegas has an Arts District as well. Stretching 2 blocks, you can cover the whole area within 10-15 minutes. There are things going on the weekends and some nights. So if you wanna check those events out, you have to be following independent stores to see when they have their events. The only thing that brings everyone together is 1st Friday. This is held on the first Friday of the month. It’s like a little fair where people have their booths to sell their goods. There is also some live entertainment but it’s also just a small few blocks.
I have spent a lot of time walking through the arts district taking photos of random things. It’s definitely a unique area here in Las Vegas, and well worth a visit. If you are interested in a good meal with some unique foods, you will love this place.
I tend to take photos of this area during the day. I like how the colors are rendered with my Zeiss lens. The colors look pastel almost.
Inside the stores I use the 35mm just because of the low light. There is a lot of vintage thrift stores here. They seem to be very popular with the locals and the tourist. I’ve walked into the same store for years and I always see some of the same things. They seem to only sell small cheap stuff that people can give as gifts.
Outside there is interesting art along the streets. Artists like to put their own drawings, paintings and stickers all over things here. Its fun checking them out.
Sometimes people purposefully put random weird objects in strange locations just to call it art. Or maybe just to trip people out and give them a good laugh.
I’ve had lots of walks here alone and with friends, it’s always been fairly fun. Although I seem to have run out of things to shoot that make me excited to explore, it’s still sometimes nice to walk around and take photos when their is new art.
