Isabelle’s Themed Photo Shoot
This was the first shoot I have ever done where everything was planned and set up from the make up to the location.
Isabelle found a cool briefcase and that led her to the idea of making a themed shoot with it. She had a friend that was going to do her hair and make up. She went and bought the perfect red skirt for the shoot too.
We arrived and it was already dark which is normally something that I would avoid completely but this time, we had no choice. There was too much work put in already so we proceeded with the shoot. Which ended up being the best idea possible.
We shot a bit indoors and just used natural light. We tried to use the flash but we were quickly told we couldn’t do that without a permit. We were scared they were just going to deny us shooting but the security told us they wouldn’t care if we shot without a flash.
We met a Santa Clause that was so friendly and let us take photos with him and his Coca-Cola bottle. I even took a selfie with him.
Using a bare flash with harsh lighting is usually something people avoid, but it’s all I had and we made some incredible photos with it.
I learned more about the flash in this shoot that I did in any of my practice shoots. Dropping the ambiance all the way and only letting the flash light up partial parts of the model and the environment is something I hadn’t done before. The images I got from it blew me away and I couldn’t stop shooting like that.
Unfortunately after a while, my flash was running out of batteries, it was getting cold and they finally told us we couldn’t shoot anymore.
We came out of that shoot with an amazing experience for the both of us as well as some incredible photos.
