Battle Of The Old And New
With technology advancing so fast these days, it’s easy to forget about all the great things that came before all these digital bits and precision engineering was standard. Which is why I decided to see how well the 40 year old Helios holds up against the 1 year old Sony Lens?
I know it’s not a fair comparison, but after using the Helios for a really long time, I realized that this tiny lens still has a lot to give.
It might not be as sharp as the modern lenses, and it’s got a lot of flaws, but it surely has a ton more character. And that has to count for something, right?
The subjects might have been boring, but I tried my best to match the photos on each lens. The images were definitely nothing going on a portfolio, but that wasn’t the point.
After reviewing the images, it was pretty hard to find the differences without knowing what to look for. The Helios is known for it’s swirly Bokeh, but in normal lighting, it’s as normal as any other lens. The only thing giving it away was the smudgy edges.
That goes to show that even with all these modern advances, the older lens can still keep up. Granted, it’s in ideal conditions, but it’s still something worth noting.
