A Small DDLL Event
I shoot events for my friends Aztec Danza group a lot. Most of the events are really cool and busy, but Dia De Los Muertos is a very cool event that most people know about.
As soon as they arrived to the event, they started setting up and organizing their equipment. With their big colorful feathers, they stood out above everyone else.
The Danza’s they do are really cool to watch. The one drum they use is really loud so it’s hard to talk above it. Everyone has no choice but to be quiet and listen.
This was the first year that they did it without the leader they’ve had for over 2 decades. He was a strong man with a very strong voice that cut through everything within range. The only thing stronger than his voice is his pride for his culture. He always had the wisest things to say for every scenario. You couldn’t help but get inspired by his words every time he spoke with the large crowds that gathered to see him.
I took a few photos of each member after they were done. We got ushered to the side and that's where I set up the flash real quick and started shooting. I took photos of them pretty fast.
We took some photos blocking their mouths so I could use them later on for some magazines or some articles. The photos came out really good. The only ones that weren’t the best were the ones of the group photo. I needed another light. The group was large and 1 light didn’t cover the whole group.
I really loved the images and I’m extremely happy to be able to be part of this.
