New Orleans

I was so excited to check out this city. I had heard so many great things but still had no idea what to expect. Since I wasn't going for Mardi gross, I figured it would be a lot more of a chill time to go, but I was wrong.

Surprisingly, I found parking close to Jackson Square on both of the days I was here. After parking, I walked around for a bit before entering Jackson Square. Everything felt like it had history. The buildings, the benches, the little streets, the statues, even the rocks. I was blown away by how cool this area was.

There was live music everywhere; in the cities, in the bars, in the main square, it was nearly impossible to ignore it. Everyone was so happy. Maybe because they were probably drunk, but still, I’ll take happy smiles any day of the week.

I quickly realized that I had to keep my guard up. There were a lot of people out trying to con tourists. This dude kept insisting on brushing my shoes clean. I must have told him no 10 times before he went on the ground and started brushing my feet and started telling me a story. After 3 minutes he ended it and said he took donations. I told him I had no money and he insisted that I was being mean because I wasted his time and cleaning product.

2 blocks down I witness a couple having sex in broad daylight. I wasn’t sure if I was being rude for staring.

I went inside a few bars to check out the live music. They all had a great environment. People were always up and dancing no matter what the band was. I thought about having a drink but decided to go have some dinner first. I checked out a place that only sold fried chicken.

This chicken is probably some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The hot sauce was so unique too, I’ve never had anything like it before. It was spicy but a little sweet. I finished the whole meal.

I continued walking around and exploring the area. I decided it wouldn’t be a good idea to have a drink. I still had so much fun though. I met a lot of cool and interesting people. A few from my hometown as well. Everyone just wanted to have a fun time.

I decided to head home as it got dark. As much as I wanted to enjoy the night life, I didn’t think it would be a good idea walking around with an expensive camera in the night through some really small streets.

The second day I did the same. Explored the rest of the town. Went inside a few shops and enjoyed the music and the people.

Got to the river and hung out a bit. The sun felt nice after it being cloudy most of the morning. It was so crowded though. I didn’t take as much photo this day because of it.

Sadly, I was only able to spend 5 hours before I had to get on the road again.
