Syreta: Photos At Night

This shoot came out at the last minute. We wanted to take some photos but with work and traffic, it proves to be pretty difficult at times.

Regardless of all that, we were determined to take some photos, no matter what.

Syreta showed up and we drove to a local park that had a nice gazebo. We weren’t too sure what we were going to shoot but I figured this was a safe place to be at since it was just the 2 of us this time.

I set up the flash and she got her glitter and lip gloss ready. Taking a few warm up shots, I quickly realized that the location wasn't as dope as I had originally envisioned. Even though there was plenty of light around us, it was still dark. I had to bump my ISO to 2,500. That's something I hardly ever do for portraits.

We began to take photos as people passed by and asked us if we were doing “YouTube stuff” and asking about photography in general. It was kind of cool. Syreta has this thing where she can go from a normal face to a modeling face in the blink of an eye. This came in handy so much here.

The first few shots were really great. I shot everything on the 35mm lens. I should have used the 85mm to really separate her from the environment but for some reason I thought the location was looking good. It was ok at best. Syreta is what made the location look good in the photos.

We ran out of ideas fairly quickly, and since I only brought the 1 flash and the soft box, there wasn’t much we could do. Going anywhere away from the gazebo made the background fall to black, which was not what we were going for.

The good thing is that we got some really good shots and we had fun doing so. Next time we shoot at night we will use more lights.
