Enya’s Neon Lights

Evening photo shoots are a bit tricky. If you’re in an area with a little bit of light, you have to bring some external lights in and you have to bump up your ISO, giving you images that have a lot more grain than on a bright and sunny day.

But the good thing about shooting at the Fremont Express is that there are lights everywhere, filling the ambiance with colorful neon lights. So we decided it’d be a great idea to take some photos in this scene.

The best thing about the shoot was that there weren't as many tourists in the area as usual. We were able to shoot without any interruptions. Framing was a bit difficult because of the lightings but it made it easier since there was no tourist to work around.

We had a limited amount of time to shoot so we breezed through the locations. Since I was using a 50mm manual focus lens, there was very little movement in our shots, which meant they were more posed.  It was a lot of fun using a lens like this.

Enya was shocked that the camera can pull so much light from these seemingly dark scenes. It’s so interesting that you can get such a different image by simply changing the white balance. Neon lights really pop like this.

We took a lot of photos but only ended up having a few keepers. Some had motion blur and others were just out of focus. But the few that I did keep were so much fun to edit. The colors and ambience were beautiful.

I want to have another shoot here, maybe the winter would be fun.
